Have you ever felt alone? Not just alone, alone but the bone-deep alone-ness of complete isolation and disconnection from everyone and everything on the planet?
I feel like I spent years living this way, feeling disconnected and watching life from the outside. Even when I was with friends, or groups of people, I often felt like I was somehow separate from everyone else. It was a painful struggle, wanting to be a part of the world and wanting to connect to the life and the lives around me, but not knowing how to FEEL connected. How does ‘connected’ feel anyway?
Connected feels just like that…connected. A part of. Inclusive. Integral. Oneness.
Spending time in nature teaches us the lessons of connection and oneness but first we need to realize that we are not separate from nature. We are an integral part of it. We are one with it. The same minerals and elements in nature are the exact same as those in our bodies.
Our natural vibrational frequency in a relaxed, meditative state and the Earths natural frequency are the same; and when we spend time in nature our vibration will naturally synchronize to that of the Earth. It will also shift our brainwaves into the theta spectrum, which occurs when we are in a state of meditation or creativity.
When our brains enter the theta spectrum it allows our attention to reflect and pause. Our brain can refresh itself from the hyper-vigilance of everyday life and reset. When I left ‘corporate america’ to go diving every day, I went from being in my office all day to being out in nature all day and all that time spent outside interacting with nature let my brain stop worrying about everything I had to do and just pause for a bit.
When we can pause like that in our brain, it allows us to become more present in our bodies and to experience our existence with all of our senses. Feeling the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair, the sand between your toes, the crunch of leaves beneath your shoe. Smelling fresh mowed grass, or the scent of pine trees in the breeze, the crash of the waves or the chirping of birds. The more you tune into your senses, the more you connect to the world around you.
The more time we spend in nature the more we experience our connection to everything around us and the more we tend to reflect on that connection. Once we shift our attention beyond ego and recognize our connection to the Universe, the more we can see the One-ness, the connected-ness, the integration of all things. We are all connected.
We are not alone. Once you really begin to find that connection within yourself and are truly aware of how connected everything is, you will no longer feel that alone-ness. Even when you are alone, you will feel the connection and the inclusive-ness. It all starts with nature, naturally. Go spend some time with her.
